1. e8=T! Kxg1 2. 0-0-0-0-0-0#!
s.a. P1368121 mit demselben Material
Chess Life And Review Reprint, from Tim Krabbe's article "On Castling": The rules of castling do leave room for confusion. In 1971 a young French composer successfully tried to fool the solvers of the magazine Europe Echecs.
(diagram)
Not one solve found the right idea: 1 P-K8=R KxB 2 O-O-O-O mate. If you are curious about 0-0-0-0, it is longrange castling which comes within a hairsbreadth 'of agreeing with the FIDE rules. The new Rook has not moved before; there is no material between the King and Rook; the King does not pass or reach attacked squares. Only the stipulation that "the King is transferred from its original square two squares toward either Rook on the same rank" (emphasis mine) forbids 0-0-0-0.

null: Two retro-variants.
(a) Ba8 appeared by wPa7-a8=bB and Pb7 is volage (original).
Thus, 1.Bxa3? is a stalemate: b7-b6=wP?? would be an illegal
autocheck!
(b) Ba8 came via b7 and, thus, Pb7 is orthodox (recolored
from a wP). (2008-06-17)
