Die Mattfelder f2 und g5 sind von s. Bauern gedeckt, die aber der w. Läufer bequem aus dem Weg räumen könnte. Probe:
1. Lxg3+? - Kxe3 2. Lf4+ - Ke4, 3. Sf2+? - Lxf2! Oder :
1. Lxh6+ - Kxe5, 2. Lf4+ - Ke4, 3. Sg5+? - Txg5!
Auch S. verschafft sich neue Deckungen für die Mattfelder: 1. La2! (droht 2. Lg5+ - Kxe5, 3. Df4+ - Ke6, 4. Bc5#)
