Henrik Juel: A similar position is given as No. 53 in Dawson & Hundsdorfer's Retrograde Analysis, where it is claimed to be the first correct rendering of the theme; it is from Schachzeitung 02/1858, i.e., a month earlier than this problem, and likewise with anonymous author (2017-11-09)

'Königsthätigkeit zu Abzugbildung'

Der Nachdruck im 'SFaFs' (der Redakteur hatte das Problem aus der 'Saturday Press' (New York) 08/1859 übernommen, ohne auch die Lösung zu kennen) führte dort zu einer monatelangen Diskussion, ob das Problem überhaupt lösbar sei, gipfelnd in der Vermutung, daß es sich um einen "Hoax" handele, um die Löser an der Nase herumzuführen.
