C11834 (Keller) 1.Sg3 (>2.Kc1 3.Be2#) Kxd2 2.Qxc4 (>3.Qc1+) Ke3 3.Qe2+ Kf4 4.Sxe4 5.Qf3. It is bad form for the key piece to be en prise – but here the wQ does not make the key move (JGG [Jim G. Grevatt]). Very good key. I spent a lot of time looking at Qxc6,d6,e6 (VS [Victor Snaith]).

  • Note on publication: C11834 shows a black ‘Lion’s cage’, to compare with the white cage in the last issue – can the en prise wQ be justified?

(The problem was obviously brought up too early for the Easter greeting. However, the problem itself is suitable for the Christmas season because the two crosses can also be considered a Christmas tree or candle.) Vergleiche (Compare) P1388082
