1) Afspærring af selve Forsvarslinierne (a).
2) Afspærring af Forsvarsli nierne saavelsom af indre førende Bilinier (b).
3) Blokade af sorte Bønder for at hindre Aabning af Forsvarslinierne (c).

Four threats but no duals (2021-06-11)
A.Buchanan: Very nice. What's the theme called? (2021-06-11)
Mario Richter: Kabe Moen in 'The Problemist Supplement' 166 (May 2020): "In the Ojanen theme the key threatens multiple mates but Black’s moves defeat all threats allowing new mates. In the pure form the number of threats, black moves, and elimination mates should be the same. The Ojanen theme may seem obscure, but when executed properly it can have a paradoxical aspect. After all, why should a random black move defeat all of the threats? The theme is named after the Finnish composer Antti Ojanen who was the first to demonstrate the idea (4b3/3PKp2/8/3Sk3/1P1pPp2/8/4Q3/8, Suomen Shakki 1944, 1.Sf6! [s. P1034651] - K. Moen obviously wasn't aware of this 1943 problem] ... The original example is too symmetrical and does not offer much excitement ..."
[For an imho nice minature with Ojanen-Theme s. P1390732] (2021-06-11)
A.Buchanan: Thanks Mario but I'm confused. Doesn't each bS move defeat *three* of the threats, leaving the other one winning? (2021-06-12)
A.Buchanan: All I can think is that Moen might well have been aware of this problem, but didn't mention it because it wasn't the Ojanen theme! But it does illustrate the lines that the composer's mind was moving along. (2021-06-13)
Mario Richter: Andrew, your argumentation sounds quite plausible to me. (2021-06-14)

SP: This was not one of the 6 HMs in the Loyd MT. As it was among eight
problems in "Group II. The Next Best.", I would have no argument
with it being called a commendation. Though published in 1913 it was
sent to the FIDE Album dated "1924". (2023-06-17)

Also 1. Also 1. Lf4-d2 Dg7-h8. Also muß Weiß einen Wartezug machen, 2. Z.B. 2. ... Sh1-g3,f2 3. Sg2-h4+ Dh8xh4 4. If White checks with his Knights on any of the four squares, Black recaptures with check. The key-move induces Black to defeat the threat by closing each of his checking lines in turn, when White's second moves can open lines for the Queen mates. The quiet threat which is forced only by Q-R2 and P-R6, takes some finding.

The problems of this query have been registered by the following contributors:

Henrik Juel: Black captured b7xLc6 and axbxc; White captured [Lf8], e2xd3, and fxexdxc6xb7-b8=D.
Ke8 to b7, Th8 to b8, Kb7 to g8, Tb8 to f8, Da4 to b8 for unpromotion, -22.c6xDb7 Da8 -23.d5xLc6 Dd8 -24.d4 Lb7 -25.e3xTd4 Lc8 -26.f2xSe3 c6 -27.h5 b7xLc6, Lc6 to f1, f2xSe3 etc.
Black may not castle, because he already did.
It is not possible to avoid the early castling:
-11... Ka7 -12.Db4 Ka6 -13.Db8 Ka7 -14.D=b7 Kb8 -15.c6xDb7 Kc8 -16.d5xLc6 Kd8 -17.d4 Ke8 -18.e3xTd4 Da8 -19.f2xSe3 Dd8 -20.h5 Lb7 -21.h4 Lc8 and two white pawn retractions are missing (2012-07-23)
Yoav Ben-Zvi: The solution does not require a full analysis since if Black King and Rook never moved then Black is almost immediately in retro-stalemate. An alternative stipulation is "First move of Black King?". (2014-06-03)
A.Buchanan: Maybe there is intentional irony? (2014-06-03)
Henrik Juel: Nowadays composers are not afraid to use the real stipulation in this type of resolution retro, like 'Release the position'.
Formerly a formal stipulation was popular, like 'Mate in 1', with the real stipulation understood but not mentioned.
Here, the stipulation question may well be ironic, but you will get no solution points, if you just answer 'No'; you still need to explain how the position arose (2014-06-03)
