Diese Stellung, jedoch ohne den sBf3, findet sich in den 150 exzentrischen schachaufgaben mit dem Hinweis: Vorstehende Augabe enthält unbeabsichtigt zwei Lösungen, beide gleich interessant, so dass es unmöglich ist, die Autor- von der Nebenlösung zu unterscheiden.

J. Mieses in 'Die Zeitung (London)': "Der Verfasser dieses scharf pointierten Problems gehörte seinerzeit zu den besten englischen Komponisten. Die Aufgabe lässt aber, ausser der vom Autor beabsichtigten, noch eine zweite Lösung zu. Sie ist also 'nebenlösig' und somit inkorrekt und eigentlich gar nicht veröffentlichungsfähig. Durch das Missgeschick, nebenlösig zu sein, ist ja bekanntlich so manche schöne Komposition entwertet worden.
Es liegt aber hier ein ganz aussergewöhnlicher und höchst eigenartiger Fall vor. Die zufällig vorhandene Nebenlösung ist nämlich an Feinheit und Witz der Autorlösung fast ebenbürtig. Ja, man könnte beinahe im Zweifel darüber sein, welche von beiden Lösungen der Verfasser im Auge gehabt hat. Von diesem Standpunkt aus betrachtet, ist die Komposition als ein Unikum in der Problemliteratur zu bezeichnen."

Teppo Mänttä: According to Fossum himself, there are four main variations with PIN MODEL MATES, where the black Rook is pinned in the squares f4+d6+d4+f6 (= corner squares of a quadrate). In his book "Sjakkoppgaver og studier av André Fossum" (page 9, problem nr. 15) Fossum gives only those four pin mate variations plus one extra variation with a model mate (1.--- e6 2.Dxe6 fxe6 3.Sg6#). The main variations are 1.--- Kxe5 2.Lg3+ Tf4 3.Dxc3# (Tf4 pinned), 1.--- Lxd7 2.Db8 Td6 3.Sxd3# (Td6 pinned), 1.--- Lc4 2.Dxc4 e1D 3.Sxd3# (Td4 pinned) and 1.--- Td6 2.Dxf7+ Tf6 3.Sg6# (Tf6 pinned). There is a DUAL 1.Lf3 Td6 2.Dxc3 --- 3.g3#, but it has been corrected by adding a black Pawn h2 (see "Computer test FIDE Albums Rev. no 3" 1993 or "Rev. no. 4" 1995. (2021-05-30)

Harri Hurme: This presents Sola-Schiffman doubled theme. (FA says incorrectly just "Sola-Schiffman", which is sompler, see below.)
In normal Sola -Schiffman white has a threat which will close a certain white line. Thus black can defend against it by taking a white unit on his first move and moves the second thime this same piece so that a certain white attaking lines opens because of annihilation. But because the threat closes this very line black defence against the threat succeeds. But white will play differently on his second move and now black is forced to move for the second time the same pice he moved on his first move, opening the certain attacking line for white.
Here wpf3 interfereces TWO attacking lines (wBd1 to h5 and wRf1 to f7). 1.Sxg5! threat 2.Sdf7! (3.Rd8#) will close both these line at f7 so that black can defend by taking the pawn 1.-Qxf3!? 2.Sdf7? Dxd5! and nor Bh5 and Rf8 are mates. White plays instead 2.Bxa4! (3.c7#); 2.-Qb3 3.Tf8#. Another variation runs 1.-Bxf3!? and now the threat 2.Sd7? fails to 2.-Bxd5! and still 3.Rf8 and 3.Bh5 fails to mate. The right contuation is 2.Rh1! (3-Rh8#) 2.-Bxh1 3.Bh5#. Note that this double Sola -Schiffamn theme requires some kind of dual mate avoidance, here achieved by moving away one of the mating pieces.

As far as know this is the only double Sola-Schiffamn problem. (2012-01-14)

gespiegelter Nachläufer unter P1160787

In der 'VSM' veröffentlicht mit der Autorangabe "H. Lehner" und der Überschrift "Ein leichtes Problem" (gibt vielleicht einen Hinweis auf die Autorschaft von P1307243 und P1307273)

In Blumenthals 'Schachminiaturen' mit der Autorangabe "Hermann Lehner" und dem Kommentar "Ein durchsichtiger, aber gefälliger Einfall des Verfassers, der sich um die Schachjournalistik besonders verdient gemacht hat" abgedruckt.
In der zweiten Auflage der Schachminiaturen (1921) heißt es dann: "Nr.9 ist von Sigmund Lehner. Bei der ersten Veröffentlichung stand der T auf e2"
Felber, Volker: In 01/1902, Seite 64 schreibt die SSZ als Antwort an den L(o)eser J. R., Brünn: 'Sie haben Recht; das Problem No. 88 stammt von Siegmund Lehner, wir haben es unter diesem Autornamen in einer Schachspalte einer illustrierten Zeitschrift (Jahrgang 1865) veröffentlicht gesehen, allerdings mit Te2, nicht Tb1. Ob die nachträgliche Änderung vielleicht vom Bruder Hermann Lehner stammt und Anlass zur Verwechslung gegeben hat, können wir nicht entscheiden.' (2013-10-09)
