Joost de Heer: In the diagram position, all castling rights are present. Each solution leads to a position with different castling rights remaining.

There are 4 different repetitions for white:
* 1. Rb1 2. Ra1 (Only white kingside castling still allowed)
* 1. Rh2 2. Rh1 (Only white queenside castling still allowed)
* 1. Kd2 2. Ke1 (No white castling allowed)
* 1. Sb6 2. Sc8 (All white castling allowed)

Similarly for black: 1. Rb8 2. Ra8 / 1. Rh7 2. Rh8 / 1. Kd7 2. Ke8 / 1. Sb3 2. Sc1

Each combination of these four results in a position with different castling rights, so 4*4=16 solutions.
There's one solution that breaks this pattern: all white castling allowed, no black castling allowed. Following the above scheme would result in the solution 1. Sb6 Kd7 2. Sc8 Ke8, but the first black move is not allowed, so this solution is slightly different: 1. Sd6 Kd7 2. Sc8 Ke8 (2023-02-07)
