Man beachte, dass sich 2. ... Lg6 nach der damals geltenden Regel verbietet, denn wer pattsetzt verliert das Spiel.
Cook: Bledow meint, dass Weiß nach 2. ... Ke7 3. g7 Se5 4. g8=D Sf7+ 5. Kg7 Sxg5 6. Df8+ Kd7 nicht gewinnen kann. Wohl etwas für Endspielexperten.

Anton Baumann: im oben angegebenen Cook ist nach 6.Df8+? Remis gemäss Nalimov.
6.Dd5! Se6+ 7.Kh6 .. ist stärker; Weiss braucht allerdings nach Nalimov über 100 Züge bis zum Matt, wobei die 50-Züge Regel nicht eingehalten werden kann!
Die beste Verteidigung von Schwarz ist: 2. ... c3! 3.g7+ Ke7 4.g8=D c2 5.Dg7+ Kd6 6.Dd4+ Ke7 7.Dxd3 c1=D (Remis nach Nalimov); also klar cooked. (2023-02-22)
