So we get with wSg4 a s#9 with 2 solutions. (2009-04-29)
paul: The second "solution" is rather a cook. Will be much better to be avoided. (2022-09-14)
Nightrider: Simple correction: +bPh4 (many other squares for an additional bP are possible and would make the problem correct). C+ Gustav 4.2e.
Nice logical structure: With wQb6, 1.Sf2+ Kg1 2.Sh1+ K:S 3.Qb1+ would be sufficient. The queen could make a staircase walk to b6 if wSe4 were not in the way. Hence 1.Sf2+ Kg1 2.Sg4+ Kh1 to open the queen's way to b6: 3.Qe4+ Kg1 4.Qd4+ Kh1 5.Qd5+ Kg1 6.Qc5+ Kh1 7.Qc6+ Kg1 8.Qb6+ Kh1. Now the wS has been moved, but on its new square (g4) it disturbs even more than before (on e4). Therefore 9.Sf2+ Kg1 10.Sh1+ K:h1 and finally 11.Qb1+ Rg1#. (2023-11-24)

A.Buchanan: A number of these problems have been classified as fairy. I am aware of the passion with which some choose to protect orthodox stipulations from heresy, but in these kinds of construction problems, concerns of legality are paramount, and I see no problem in classifying them as retro, in which happy realm there is more tolerance of stipulatory diversity. Nor are such problems "mathematical". Here the only numerical skill required is the ability to count up to three, a skill possessed by other species apart from humans (2022-01-11)
A.Buchanan: Cutely, the three moves are mate, stalemate, and living position.
The Codex separates retro, mathematical & constructional into different categories. Verifying that a diagram position is legal does not make the problem retro. But we don't have a constructional category in PDB. Maybe some day. (2023-12-17)

Cook: 'Dubuque Chess Journal' 09/1873 S. 22:
1. Lc5+ Kc6 2. Lxe3 c2 3. e7 Kd7
and Black wins, for the king stops K P [i.e. white pawn e7], but how can the B stop the other pawns?

Anton Baumann: unlösbar!?
Vermutliche Autorabsicht: 1.Lc5+ Kxc5 2.e7 Remis
aber: 1. ... Kc6! 2.e7 Kd7! Schwarz gewinnt.
Mit sBc7 nach c6 wäre das Remis möglich:
1.Lc5+? Kxc5 2.e7 c2! 3.e8=D c1=D Schwarz gewinnt
1.Ld8+! Kc5 2.e7 c2 3.e8=D c1=D 4.De5+ Kc4 5.De4+ Kc5 Remis (2023-03-09)

("Selection of studies composed by William Anthony Shinkman") sieht die Stellung ein bißchen anders aus (hat aber den Zusatz "(c)", was für Korrektur stehen könnte):
zusätzlicher sBc5 und sBBf5+f4 statt sBf3 mit der Lösung 1. Lxc5+ Kxc5 2. e7 c2 3. e8=D c1=D 4. De5+ Kc6 5. Dc3+ Dxc3 patt
4. ... Kc4 5. Dxc7+
