Bei allem Respekt vor dem respekteinflößenden Autor: Ich habe nicht viel Freude (mehr) an Solchem!" (HHS) Autor M3 hat leider einen Hang zu etwas chaotischen Drohungen und ebensolches Nebenspiel. Hat man jedoch erstmal die thematisch relevanten Varianten herausgefiltert, dann kann man wohl nur noch begeistert sein: "Eine ganz starke Konzeption, für die sich die Löserqualen gelohnt haben." (CG) "Der wS umkreist den sK mit Schachgeboten, bis diesem die Luft ausgeht. Ein prächtiges Platzwechselmärchen mit logischem Touch!" (RJB) "Ein verwirrender Rundtanz mit eigenartigen Holzhausen-Effekten!" (MS) "Wunderschön: Türme schlagen darf er nicht, aber wenn er sich von ihnen schlagen lässt, zudem noch auf denselben Feldern, dann geht's!... Der Rest ist recht verwirrlich, aber kaum interessant." Mehrfach verglichen die Löser hier die Selbstmattform mit orthodoxen Darstellungsformen, am ausführlichsten MOe " Sicherlich läßt sich das im Direktmatt sparsamer darstellen, auch wenn dann die beiden weißfeldrigen Läufer von Anfang an auf dem Brett stünden. ... Der Autor sollte ruhig den Mut haben, mit dem Umwandlungsfigurenverbot zu brechen, um eine ökonomisch einwandfreie Darstellung zu erreichen. " Doch genau diesen Punkt wird jeder für sich etwas anders beurteilen. Zur Vermeidung von Umwandlungsfiguren hat der Autor hier ganz bewußt die Selbstmattform gewählt. Der Schlüssel ist sicherlich nicht der besten einer, jedoch löst er eine vollzügige Drohung aus. Eben ein typisch taktischer Vierzüger aus dem Osten, ausgezeichnet konstruiert (ThZ: 4/II).

Ke4 8.Sf6# IM. LV: For this problem I worked overtime! Der bekannte Mechanismus der Beschäftigungslenkung, aber der Schlüsselzug ist nicht leicht zu sehen (KHS). Eine hübsche mit Idealmatt endende Miniatur (AB)! WAB legte mir einen Vorschlag zur Verbesserung vor: wSg8 nach d5 versetzen (CO+). Lösung: 1. Se5! usw. Vorteil: kein abseits stehender wS. Allerdings hat sich keiner der Löser über die Platzierung des wSg8 negativ geäußert. Im Gegenteil: ein Zug des wS wurde eher als möglicher 2. oder 3. Zug ins Auge gefaßt. Ich meine aber, daß die neue Version einen harmonischeren, oder besser: ästhetischeren Eindruck hinterläßt. Gesamteindruck von KHS: Durchwachsenes Angebot: es kann eben nicht jeden Tag Sonntag sein!
Der letzte Satz des obigen Kommentares gehört sicher nicht zu dieser Aufgabe, sondern zum gesamten ortho-Urdruckangebot.

Wenn der wSg8 - wie oben vorgeschlagen - nach d5 versetzt wird, steht der sK im Schach! Mit wSg8->d7 löst nur 1. Se5!

Ein freundliches Rätselstück (VZ)! Der Autor legt auch Wert auf das Probespiel 1.g3? (2.Lh3 d3 3.Lg5 d2 4.Tb1#) d3!; es unterstreicht die Existenzberechtigung des wBg2, der sonst, wie AB richtig bemerkt, durch Versetzen des wK nach g2, gestrichen werden könnte. Die Frage ist, ob dieses Probespiel überhaupt notwendig ist dargestellt zu werden: schon der Zugzwang widerlegt automatisch diese Idee. Deshalb wurde von allen Lösern dieses Probespiel (wenn es dann noch eines ist...) nicht notiert. Ich könnte mit dem wKg2 leben.

problems in "Group II. The Next Best.", I would have no argument
with it being called a commendation. Though published in 1913 it was

'Riesaer Tageblatt und Anzeiger' gibt für Problemanfänger wieder ausführliche Lösetips: "Das Studium der vorliegenden Stellung lehrt uns folgendes: der schwarze König kann nicht ziehen. Der Läufer und die Bauern ebenfalls nicht. Nur die Springer und die Dame. Die schwarze Madam kann sogar allerhand Dummheiten machen. Sie kann auf e5 Schach sagen, dies würde Weiß mit Sc6xe5 matt parieren. Sie kann auf g3 Schach sagen, dann würde Weiß nach h2xg3 sogar zwei Mattmöglichkeiten haben, nämlich Sg2-h4# (der Lf4 ist jetzt ja gedeckt) und Sc6-e5#, beides können dann auch die schwarzenSpringer nicht zugleich verhindern. Schlimmer sieht es aus nach 1. ... Dg7xg2! weil dann der Lf4 nicht mehr gedeckt ist. Also ziehen wir diesen Läufer einmal weg und entdecken plötzlich, daß da eine neue Mattmögichkeit auftaucht. Sg2-h4#, sofern der Läufer auch nach dem Wegzug noch das Feld e3 deckt, woraus hervorgeht, daß er nur nach d2 ziehen kann, denn auf e1, g5 und h6 wird er geschlagen. Also 1. Lf4-d2 (c3 kann ihn nicht schlagen, ist ja gefesselt). Nun muß die schwarze Dame außer e5 auch noch h4 decken,das kann sie nur von h8 aus. Auf Schachgebote kämen die schon erwähnten Spiele, auf Dxg2 aber nun Sc6-e5#. Also 1. Lf4-d2 Dg7-h8. Jetzt steht die Dame in Brennpunktstellung. So lautet der Fachausdruck für die Lage, in der eine schwarze Figur zwei in einem Winkel entfernte bedrohte (Matt-)Felder zugleich gedeckt halten muß. Müßte Schwarz jetzt noch einmal mit der Dame ziehen, so wäre er gezwungen, eines der Felder , d4, e5, h4, freizugeben. Das wird er nicht tun. Ablenken kann ihn Weiß aber auch nicht, denn Springerschachs pariert die Dame ihrerseits mit Schach. Also muß Weiß einen Wartezug machen, 2. Ld2-g5, und nun muß Schwarz entweder die Dame ziehen, mit der schon geschilderten Schädigug, oder mit einem der Springer die weiße Schachgefahr aufheben. Z.B. 2. ... Sh1-g3,f2 3. Sg2-h4+ Dh8xh4 4. Sc6-e5#
