In der 'Nordisk Skaktidende' steht sinngemäß, daß der Herausgeber des 'Progress' (eines in Philadelphia wöchentlich erscheinenden Magazins) anläßlich der bevorstehenden Publikation des 100. Problems (Redakteur der Schachspalte ab 1879: Neill) mit der Bitte an Reichhelm herantrat, zu diesem Jubiläum einen kleinen Hundertzüger zu komponieren. Autorabsicht war also zunächst wohl tatsächlich ein #100, allerdings sagt eine Fußnote in der 'Nordisk Skaktidende', daß sich später zeigte, daß mindestens 102 Züge notwendig seien. Mit letzterer Forderung auch in H.F.L. Meyers 'A Complete Guide to the Game of Chess' (1882) S. 251 nur in Notation und leider ohne Lösung nachgedruckt.

Although it is quite a tricky position, with quite many surprising possibilities, #100 seems highly doubtful, while #101 is confirmed; see this screenshot for comparison of analysis #101 vs. #100: https://i.ibb.co/c8Jv9Pw/579-101-vs-100.png

Analysis as #100 was running for more than 11h and stuck (couldn't find solution with best 79th move 79.Ra1-h1), so that the displayed order of black pawns' moves seems to be the best defence for black that prevents #100. (2020-04-13)

'The Problemist' 07/2016, p. 420: "Plausible tries 1.d8R?, 1.b6? – the Pb5 shields both horizontally and diagonally. An alternative setting with Pb7 on b6 (in 34 moves) would include the try 1.d8Q?
