James Malcom: What was the C+ with? (2021-06-11)
rasatom: I can't imagine this problem being C+. My Gustav 4.1 b needed 11' 47'' with F=2.13-2.47, to prove he didn't have s#15. (2022-05-20)
Olaf Jenkner: It has been found in a computer generated database. Believe me, it is C+. (2022-08-15)
James Malcom: What database, and when? Is there an article detailing it? I wonder if it is still accessible... (2022-08-16)

Vaclav Kotesovec: After more than 513 hours, Gustav 4.2c was able to test this problem! (2023-04-09)
Vaclav Kotesovec: As a composer, I would have preferred to place the white king on h5 (and ser-!=112) with multiple switchbacks, but I understand that the authors were probably more concerned with the length record. (2023-04-09)
James Malcom: That is quite the dedication to computer testing! (2023-04-10)
Vaclav Kotesovec: This problem was one of a number of problems I chose to test the new version 4.2c of Gustav by Olaf Jenkner. I always test several problems in parallel, so even though the testing times may seem long (and in the case of this problem it was rather an exception), on average it takes no more than a week to test one such problem, so I get some results almost every day. The most time-consuming problems are, of course, correct ones, and cooked ones are usually discovered much faster. I consider the fact that this problem has been completely tested as another step on the very limit of the possibilities of current computer technology. (2023-04-10)

Henrik Juel: The stipulation says 355 moves, but the solution says 335.
Could we get some details of the main variation, please. (2011-11-01)
Mario Richter: Correct stipulation is "Matt in 335 Königszügen". (2022-10-07)
Henrik Juel: the last move in this monster problem should be 335.Kxg3 (2022-10-07)
James Malcom: Fixed. (2023-03-07)
Henrik Juel: Thanks, Mario and James (2023-03-07)

Frank Müller: Wahrscheinlich sollte die in Philadelphia erschienene Quelle "The Chess Record" sein. Wer weiß genaueres zum Thema "Philadelphia Record" und "(The) Chess Record" ?

Ach, und kann das mal einer lösen? (2018-03-10)
Mario Richter: Ich denke auch, daß es sich bei der Quelle um 'The Chess Record' handelt.
Aus dem Buch 'Chess in Philadelphia' (zu finden z.B. bei archive.org oder books.google.com): "The Chess Record started in April [1873] as an independent publication, but merged in November with the Philadelphia Intelligencer. Published by George C. Helmbold. Edited by G. Reichhelm and afterwards W. H. Sayen ..."

Könnte der Lösungsmechanismus ähnlich wie bei P1086725 fuktionieren? :-) (2018-03-10)
Olaf Jenkner: Der Cook scheint bis zum 43. Zug der Autorlösung zu folgen.
Nach 44. ... g5? wird es schneller matt. (2018-03-11)
Frank Müller: Habe die Quelle nun von Philadelphia Record in The Chess Record geändert. (2018-03-11)
msterkowiec: It seems that it is even #57. After 4...d3 there is 5.Q:g7 (#34 in total)

msterkowiec: Actually there are precalculated data available for this type of position - they are included within installation of a free program that can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CjYhj3F2FXUuXUDe3OPILxfIVU8EFlNu/view?usp=sharing - however this piece of software is mainly in Polish, anyway it still might be usable based on this short information: https://i.ibb.co/7yTqp0G/manual.png

It is still only Polish because it was originally intended for my son who was 7 years old at this time; secondly because of relatively small interest (it has been for quite a long time available through this Polish chess forum: http://szachowe.pl/viewtopic.php?f=18&p=113611&sid=820c3eca01d996c6665b614cf85d3149#p113611 )
Please let me know... making English version (or "switchable") shouldn't take more that 2-3 days.

BTW: Program contains option not to use precalculated data: in case of this problem program still reports #57 (though it takes about 15 minutes in such case, while precalculated data show solution immediately) (2020-01-12)
msterkowiec: If anyone by any chance was interested in this piece of software and found the link above not working, here is an available download: ver. 5.1: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1JTbHkHB274JfTjm_JyaRL-UWZVIKWJjy/view?usp=sharing (be prepared for multitude of warnings from Windows Defended - anyway it's enough to trust your antivirus) (2023-05-25)

Ist es egal, ob man 25. Le7 oder 35. Le7 spielt?
Anton Baumann: ausser wenn der sK nach f8 zieht, kann der Zug Ld8-e7 zu einem beliebigen Zeitpunkt erfolgen (also 26.Le7 oder 27.Le7 ...); desgl. ist der Zeitpunkt für Le7-Ld8 nicht fix (zB. 63.Ld8 oder 64.Ld8 ...) (2022-09-08)
