Die 'Philadelphia Times' schreibt: "The following problem by Mr. Samuel Loyd, originally published in the New York 'Evening Telegram' and reprinted in the 'International' ..."

'New York Evening Telegram' (Leiter der Schachrubrik "Castles and Kings": Sam Loyd):
Composers not infrequently get the idea of the trick for a problem by first placing the black king on the board alone and adding the other pieces one at a time as the problem becomes developed during the course of construction. Sometimes the relative positions of the kings will suggest a good theme to build upon. During a recent visit to the New York Chess Club our chess editor was invited to compose an impromptu position for the members to solve, and the placing of the two kings in opposite corners of the board - as shown on the diagram - was given as a theme to work upon. The position of the pieces illustrates the group of solvers in one corner, and the author in another awaiting the arrival of the solution, which, by the way, he will add, wass not so spontaneous as the composing. It is a crude affair, but is thought to give evidence of latent genius which may yet come to the surface. While referring to the placing of the kings, we give our readers another little puzzle in the same line [s. P1364636], which they will find both amusing and instructive ..."

Loyd: 368 was a little bagatelle I posed in the shape of an arrow,
and sent to a friend, who, from the nature of the solution, christened it 'Peek a Bo', and has shown it for years as the most funny problem he ever saw. My friend used to bet that no one could solve this problem without taking back a move".
